بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ bismillāhir raḥmānir raḥīm In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful.
1
إِذَا وَقَعَتِ ٱلْوَاقِعَةُ idhā waqa`atil wāqi`ah WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass --
2
لَيْسَ لِوَقْعَتِهَا كَاذِبَةٌ laysa liwaq`atihā kādhibah Which is bound to happen undoubtedly --
3
خَافِضَةٌ رَّافِعَةٌ khāfiḍatun rāfi`ah Degrading (some) and exalting (others);
4
إِذَا رُجَّتِ ٱلْأَرْضُ رَجًّا idhā rujjatil-arḍu rajjā When the earth is shaken up convulsively,
5
وَبُسَّتِ ٱلْجِبَالُ بَسًّا wabussatil jibālu bassā The mountains bruised and crushed,
6
فَكَانَتْ هَبَآءً مُّنۢبَثًّا fakānat habā-an munbathhā Turned to dust, floating in the air,
7
وَكُنتُمْ أَزْوَٰجًا ثَلَـٰثَةً wakuntum azwājan thalāthah You will become three categories:
8
فَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَيْمَنَةِ fa-aṣ-ḥābul maymanati mā aṣ-ḥābul maymanah Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand!
9
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْمَشْـَٔمَةِ wa-aṣ-ḥābul mash-amati mā aṣ-ḥābul mash-amah Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand!
10
وَٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ ٱلسَّـٰبِقُونَ was sābiqūnas sābiqūn Then the foremost, how pre-excellent,
11
أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ ulā-ikal muqarrabūn Who will be honoured
12
فِى جَنَّـٰتِ ٱلنَّعِيمِ fī jannātin na`īm In gardens of tranquility;
13
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ thullatun minal-awwalīn A number of the earlier peoples,
14
وَقَلِيلٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ waqalīlun minal-ākhirīn And a few of later ages,
15
عَلَىٰ سُرُرٍ مَّوْضُونَةٍ `alā sururin mawḍūnah On couches wrought of gold,
16
مُّتَّكِـِٔينَ عَلَيْهَا مُتَقَـٰبِلِينَ muttaki-īna `alayhā mutaqābilīn Reclining face to face.
17
يَطُوفُ عَلَيْهِمْ وِلْدَٰنٌ مُّخَلَّدُونَ yaṭūfu `alayhim wildānun mukhalladūn Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them
18
بِأَكْوَابٍ وَأَبَارِيقَ وَكَأْسٍ مِّن مَّعِينٍ bi-akwābin wa-abārīqa waka-sin min ma`īn Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine,
وَفَـٰكِهَةٍ مِّمَّا يَتَخَيَّرُونَ wafākihatim mimmā yatakhayyarūn And such fruits as they fancy,
21
وَلَحْمِ طَيْرٍ مِّمَّا يَشْتَهُونَ walaḥmi ṭayrin mimmā yashtahūn Bird meats that they relish,
22
وَحُورٌ عِينٌ waḥūrun `īn And companions with big beautiful eyes
23
كَأَمْثَـٰلِ ٱللُّؤْلُؤِ ٱلْمَكْنُونِ ka-amthālillu-lu-il maknūn Like pearls within their shells,
24
جَزَآءًۢ بِمَا كَانُوا۟ يَعْمَلُونَ jazā-an bimā kānū ya`malūn As recompense for all they had done.
25
لَا يَسْمَعُونَ فِيهَا لَغْوًا وَلَا تَأْثِيمًا lā yasma`ūna fīhā laghwan walā ta-thīmā They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin,
26
إِلَّا قِيلًا سَلَـٰمًا سَلَـٰمًا illā qīlan salāman salāmā Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation.
27
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلْيَمِينِ wa-aṣ-ḥābul yamīni mā aṣ-ḥābul yamīn As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand --
28
فِى سِدْرٍ مَّخْضُودٍ fī sidrin makhḍūd They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote
29
وَطَلْحٍ مَّنضُودٍ waṭalḥin manḍūd And acacia covered with heaps of bloom,
وَفُرُشٍ مَّرْفُوعَةٍ wafurushin marfū`ah And maidens incomparable.
35
إِنَّآ أَنشَأْنَـٰهُنَّ إِنشَآءً innā ansha-nāhunna inshā-ā We have formed them in a distinctive fashion,
36
فَجَعَلْنَـٰهُنَّ أَبْكَارًا faja`alnāhunna abkārā And made them virginal,
37
عُرُبًا أَتْرَابًا `uruban atrābā Loving companions matched in age,
38
لِّأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ li-aṣ-ḥābil yamīn For those of the right hand.
39
ثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ thullatun minal-awwalīn A crowd of earlier generations
40
وَثُلَّةٌ مِّنَ ٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ wathullatun minal-ākhirīn And a crowd of the later.
41
وَأَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ مَآ أَصْحَـٰبُ ٱلشِّمَالِ wa-aṣ-ḥābush shimāli mā aṣ-ḥābush shimāl But those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) those of the left hand --
42
فِى سَمُومٍ وَحَمِيمٍ fī samūmin waḥamīm Will be in the scorching wind and boiling water,
43
وَظِلٍّ مِّن يَحْمُومٍ waẓillin min yaḥmūm Under the shadow of thick black smoke
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا۟ قَبْلَ ذَٰلِكَ مُتْرَفِينَ innahum kānū qabla dhālika mutrafīn They were endowed with good things
46
وَكَانُوا۟ يُصِرُّونَ عَلَى ٱلْحِنثِ ٱلْعَظِيمِ wakānū yuṣirrūna `alal-ḥinthil `aẓīm But persisted in that greater sin,
47
وَكَانُوا۟ يَقُولُونَ أَئِذَا مِتْنَا وَكُنَّا تُرَابًا وَعِظَـٰمًا أَءِنَّا لَمَبْعُوثُونَ wakānū yaqūlūna a-idhā mitnā wakunnā turāban wa`iẓāman a-innā lamab`ūthūn And said: "What! When we are dead and turned to dust and bones, shall we then be raised again?
48
أَوَءَابَآؤُنَا ٱلْأَوَّلُونَ awa-ābā-unal-awwalūn And so will our fathers?"
49
قُلْ إِنَّ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ وَٱلْـَٔاخِرِينَ qul innal-awwalīna wal-ākhirīn Say: "Indeed, the earlier and the later generations
50
لَمَجْمُوعُونَ إِلَىٰ مِيقَـٰتِ يَوْمٍ مَّعْلُومٍ lamajmū`ūna ilā mīqāti yawmin ma`lūm Will be gathered together on a certain day which is predetermined.
51
ثُمَّ إِنَّكُمْ أَيُّهَا ٱلضَّآلُّونَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبُونَ thumma innakum ayyuhaḍ ḍāllūnal mukadhhibūn Then you, the erring and the deniers,
52
لَـَٔاكِلُونَ مِن شَجَرٍ مِّن زَقُّومٍ la-ākilūna min shajarin min zaqqūm Will eat of the tree of Zaqqum,
53
فَمَالِـُٔونَ مِنْهَا ٱلْبُطُونَ famāli-ūna minhal buṭūn Fill your bellies with it,
54
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ عَلَيْهِ مِنَ ٱلْحَمِيمِ fashāribūna `alayhi minal ḥamīm And drink over it scalding water,
55
فَشَـٰرِبُونَ شُرْبَ ٱلْهِيمِ fashāribūna shurbal hīm Lapping it up like female camels raging of thirst with disease."
56
هَـٰذَا نُزُلُهُمْ يَوْمَ ٱلدِّينِ hādhā nuzuluhum yawmad dīn Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement.
57
نَحْنُ خَلَقْنَـٰكُمْ فَلَوْلَا تُصَدِّقُونَ naḥnu khalaqnākum falawlā tuṣaddiqūn It is He who created you, then why do you not affirm the truth?
58
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تُمْنُونَ afara aytum mā tumnūn Just consider (the semen) that you emit,
59
ءَأَنتُمْ تَخْلُقُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْخَـٰلِقُونَ a-antum takhluqūnahu am naḥnul khāliqūn Do you create it, or We are its creator?
60
نَحْنُ قَدَّرْنَا بَيْنَكُمُ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَمَا نَحْنُ بِمَسْبُوقِينَ naḥnu qaddarnā baynakumul mawta wa mā naḥnu bimasbūqīn We have incorporated death in your constitution, and We shall not be hindered
61
عَلَىٰٓ أَن نُّبَدِّلَ أَمْثَـٰلَكُمْ وَنُنشِئَكُمْ فِى مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ `alā an nubaddila amthālakum wanunshi-akum fī mā lā ta`lamūn From replacing you with others or raising you in a way you do not know.
62
وَلَقَدْ عَلِمْتُمُ ٱلنَّشْأَةَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ فَلَوْلَا تَذَكَّرُونَ walaqad `alimtumun nash-atal-ūlā falawlā tadhakkarūn You have known the first creation, then why do you not reflect?
63
أَفَرَءَيْتُم مَّا تَحْرُثُونَ afara aytum mā taḥruthūn Just ponder over what you sow:
64
ءَأَنتُمْ تَزْرَعُونَهُۥٓ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلزَّٰرِعُونَ a-antum tazra`ūnahu am naḥnuz zāri`ūn Do you give it its increase, or are We the giver?
65
لَوْ نَشَآءُ لَجَعَلْنَـٰهُ حُطَـٰمًا فَظَلْتُمْ تَفَكَّهُونَ law nashā-u laja`alnāhu ḥuṭāman faẓaltum tafakkahūn We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day,
66
إِنَّا لَمُغْرَمُونَ innā lamughramūn (And say:) "We have fallen into debt;
67
بَلْ نَحْنُ مَحْرُومُونَ bal naḥnu maḥrūmūn Indeed, we have been deprived of the fruits of our labour."
68
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلْمَآءَ ٱلَّذِى تَشْرَبُونَ afara aytumul mā-al ladhī tashrabūn Consider the water that you drink.
69
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنزَلْتُمُوهُ مِنَ ٱلْمُزْنِ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنزِلُونَ a-antum anzaltumūhu minal muzni am naḥnul munzilūn Do you send it down from the clouds, or We send it down?
70
لَوْ نَشَآءُ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ أُجَاجًا فَلَوْلَا تَشْكُرُونَ law nashā-u ja`alnāhu ujājan falawlā tashkurūn We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks?
71
أَفَرَءَيْتُمُ ٱلنَّارَ ٱلَّتِى تُورُونَ afara aytumun nāral latī tūrūn Consider the fire that you strike (and get by friction).
72
ءَأَنتُمْ أَنشَأْتُمْ شَجَرَتَهَآ أَمْ نَحْنُ ٱلْمُنشِـُٔونَ a-antum ansha-tum shajaratahā am naḥnul munshi-ūn Have you raised its tree, or We have raised it?
73
نَحْنُ جَعَلْنَـٰهَا تَذْكِرَةً وَمَتَـٰعًا لِّلْمُقْوِينَ naḥnu ja`alnāhā tadhkiratan wa matā`al lil-muqwyn We have made it as a reminder and convenience for the needy.
74
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ fasabbiḥ bismi rabbikal `aẓīm So glorify your Lord, the most supreme.
75
فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِمَوَٰقِعِ ٱلنُّجُومِ falā uqsimu bimawāqi`in nujūm So I call the placement of the stars to witness --
76
وَإِنَّهُۥ لَقَسَمٌ لَّوْ تَعْلَمُونَ عَظِيمٌ wa innahu laqasamul law ta`lamūna `aẓīm And this surely is great evidence if you can understand --
77
إِنَّهُۥ لَقُرْءَانٌ كَرِيمٌ innahu laqur-ānun karīm That this is indeed the glorious Qur'an
78
فِى كِتَـٰبٍ مَّكْنُونٍ fī kitābin maknūn (Inscribed) in the well-kept Book.
79
لَّا يَمَسُّهُۥٓ إِلَّا ٱلْمُطَهَّرُونَ lā yamassuhu illal-muṭahharūn Only they can reach it who are clean (of mind).
80
تَنزِيلٌ مِّن رَّبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ tanzīlun min rabbil `ālamīn It has been revealed by the Lord of all the worlds.
81
أَفَبِهَـٰذَا ٱلْحَدِيثِ أَنتُم مُّدْهِنُونَ afabihādhal ḥadīthi antum mud-hinūn Then why do you dissimulate this Revelation?
82
وَتَجْعَلُونَ رِزْقَكُمْ أَنَّكُمْ تُكَذِّبُونَ wataj`alūna rizqakum annakum tukadhhibūn You live by calling it a lie.
83
فَلَوْلَآ إِذَا بَلَغَتِ ٱلْحُلْقُومَ falawlā idhā balaghatil ḥulqūm Then how is it that when the (dying) breath is withdrawn into the throat (and rattles),
84
وَأَنتُمْ حِينَئِذٍ تَنظُرُونَ wa-antum ḥīna-idhin tanẓurūn And you wait for the moment (of death),
85
وَنَحْنُ أَقْرَبُ إِلَيْهِ مِنكُمْ وَلَـٰكِن لَّا تُبْصِرُونَ wanaḥnu aqrabu ilayhi minkum walākin lā tubṣirūn We are closer to him than you, even though you cannot see?
86
فَلَوْلَآ إِن كُنتُمْ غَيْرَ مَدِينِينَ falawlā in kuntum ghayra madīnīn Then why, if you are not indebted (to Us for life),
87
تَرْجِعُونَهَآ إِن كُنتُمْ صَـٰدِقِينَ tarji`ūnahā in kuntum ṣādiqīn Can you not bring him back? (Answer) if you are truthful
88
فَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُقَرَّبِينَ fa-ammā in kāna minal muqarrabīn Then, if he is one of the honoured,
89
فَرَوْحٌ وَرَيْحَانٌ وَجَنَّتُ نَعِيمٍ farawḥun warayḥānun wajannatu na`īm There will be peace and plenty, and gardens of tranquility for him.
90
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ wa-ammā in kāna min aṣ-ḥābil yamīn If he is of those of the right hand,
91
فَسَلَـٰمٌ لَّكَ مِنْ أَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْيَمِينِ fasalāmul laka min aṣ-ḥābil yamīn There will be the salutation by those of the right hand: "Peace on you.
92
وَأَمَّآ إِن كَانَ مِنَ ٱلْمُكَذِّبِينَ ٱلضَّآلِّينَ wa-ammā in kāna minal mukadhhibīnaḍ ḍāllīn But if he is of the deniers and the errants,
93
فَنُزُلٌ مِّنْ حَمِيمٍ fanuzulun min ḥamīm The welcome will be boiling water
94
وَتَصْلِيَةُ جَحِيمٍ wataṣliyatu jaḥīm And the roasting in Hell.
95
إِنَّ هَـٰذَا لَهُوَ حَقُّ ٱلْيَقِينِ inna hādhā lahuwa ḥaqqul yaqīn This is indeed the ultimate truth.
96
فَسَبِّحْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلْعَظِيمِ fasabbiḥ bismi rabbikal `aẓīm Then praise your Lord, the most supreme.
